Valentine's Day Trivia

It's February and the first thing I think of is Valentine's Day. This is the time of year when the sales of roses, boxes of chocolate, cards and those little Necco candy hearts with the words printed on them all go on sale.

There will be little school children exchanging cards with each other. There will be roses sent to lovers. Heart shaped boxes of candy will be passed around. Love will be in the air for most on this day. Here's a little information I dug up for you concerning the most romantic day of the year. So pull up your sweetheart or a box of chocolates and enjoy.
  • 15% of women on Valentine's Day send THEMSELVES flowers.
  • 73% of people that buy flowers on Valentine's Day are men.
  • One BILLION cards will be exchanged.
  • 3% of pet owners give Valentine's gifts to their pets.
  • 110 MILLION roses, mostly red, will be delivered.
  • Hallmark has over 1,330 different cards for Valentine's Day this year.
  • Funny Valentine's Day cards in the 19th century were called "Vinegar Cards" and Penny Dreadfuls".
  • Children, ages 6-10, will exchange more than 650 MILLION Valentine's Day cards.
  • Little known fact: In the middle ages, young men and women would draw names from a bowl to see who their Valentine would be. They would pin the name to their sleeve and where it around for an entire week. This is where the saying "Wearing your heart on your sleeve" comes from.
  • Every year, Necco Sweethearts Conversation Hearts candies prints saying on the tiny, colorful sugar hearts. Each year the sayings are all related to a certain event. Last year the event was "the weather". This year's sayings are based on "dining out".
I'd like to thank www.carsinet.com for the terrific facts and brain candy!
